Cheilosia (Diptera, Syrphidae: Rhingiini) of Nepal with descriptions of 29 new species

The genus Cheilosia (Diptera: Syrphidae: Rhingiini) of Nepal is reviewed. We recorded 37 species Cheilosia, which 29 are described here. Twenty-six the new classified to a subgenus: (Cheilosia) angusta sp. nov., C. (C.) falcata hauseri maculata pica pilivena spinosa spuria weiperti (Montanocheila) albipicta (M.) alpha brevimontana gilva minuscula nigella pernigra picta (Floccocheila) collis (F.) crassata illustratoides indistincta leucozonoides vellea (Eucartosyrphus) procera (Pollinocheila) rava and (Taeniochilosia) nepalensis nov. remaining three species, flavigena insolita versa based on female only, thus not subgenus. subgenus Taeniochilosia Oldenberg, 1916 here re-defined also include with pilose eye in combination previously defined characters. nigriventris Barkalov & Cheng, 2004 herewith placed as junior synonym erratica Peck, 1997, description sex provided. provide digital photographs line drawings illustrate morphological details all an identification key subgenera for Nepal. explored infrageneric classification some Nepalese science molecular work was possible using mtDNA COI barcode sequences.
